A Microfiber Towel is a Cleaning Tool made from a Blend of polyester and polyamide. Unlike a cotton terry cloth (which pushes water), microfiber lifts and traps dirt, polish, and water. Selecting the right towel depends on its GSM (density), Pile (fiber length), and Weave (pattern). This guide explains these attributes so you can select the right product from our Downey store.
Use these three attributes to identify the correct towel for your task.
GSM is the towel's density or weight. Use a high GSM (e.g., 500-1100) towel to absorb large volumes of water for drying. Use a lower GSM (e.g., 350) towel for utility tasks like Polish Removal.
Pile is the fiber length. Choose a High Pile (plush, long fibers) towel to trap dirt safely during a waterless wash. Choose a Low Pile (short nap) towel to wipe off Ceramic Coating residue, as it provides more "bite" and prevents streaking.
Weave is the towel's pattern. Select a Waffle Weave or Twist Loop towel for glass and drying, as its unique pattern channels water. Use a Pearl Weave for polish removal or a Suede weave for applying coatings.
Use a high GSM (1100+), Twist Loop or Plush towel to absorb water quickly and prevent scratches.
Use an Edgeless, Low Pile (350 GSM) towel. The Ultrasonic Cut Edge prevents scratching, and the Low Pile provides the "bite" needed to remove polish residue.
Use a Suede applicator to apply the coating. Use a separate, Edgeless, Low Pile towel to level (wipe) the high spots before the coating cures. After leveling the surface, allow the coating to set for a few minutes to ensure optimal adhesion. For any residue that may remain, consider using deionized water benefits for rinsing, as it helps prevent mineral deposits from marring the finish. This not only enhances the final appearance but also contributes to the longevity of the coating.
Use a Waffle Weave or low-pile glass towel. Its unique pockets trap glass cleaner and provide a streak-free finish.
